Elected as Southeast Chapters Coordinator-Elect

Rhonda Duggan, BSN, RN, CCTC

Job Position and Professional Responsibilities

For the past 9 years I have worked as a Kidney Transplant Coordinator at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, NC. I am responsible for evaluating and educating patients interested in kidney donation. My responsibilities also include arranging admission, pre-operative evaluation, and surgery for potential recipients when an organ becomes available.

Role Qualifications

As a member of the Greater Charlotte Chapter since 2004, I have served as President, Secretary, Treasurer, and currently the President-Elect. Each role has brought different opportunities and experiences. I am also an active member of the ANNA Transplant Specialty Practice Network and currently serving as the Publication Team Leader. These experiences have allowed me to attend the Volunteer Leaders Workshop (VLW) for the past 6 years. Each year I have grown professionally as a nephrology nurse and become a stronger patient advocate.

Role in ANNA projects/activities illustrating support of ANNA’s mission, goals, and objectives

Throughout my 17 years as a nephrology nurse, I have cared for patients in various stages of kidney disease. My passion for nursing has extended to a passion for educating those at risk for kidney disease. Representing the Greater Charlotte Chapter, I have served as the Lead Volunteer Coordinator for the largest KEEP screening in the Carolinas for the past 2 years. These screenings have had a very positive influence on our community.

For the past 9 years I have helped coordinate our chapter’s annual holiday fundraiser. Money raised provides holiday gifts for children with kidney disease in our area.

In 2009 I joined the North Carolina Statewide Collaborative Planning Committee as the vendor liaison and chairperson. Each year this symposium provides an excellent educational opportunity for nurses in our region to advance their nephrology practice.

Throughout my years as an ANNA member, my volunteer experiences have strengthened my leadership ability and given me the skills I need to serve as the Southeast Chapters Coordinator-Elect.
