Letter from the ANNA President to members announcing CMS' release of the Final Rule on the new bundled payment system for dialysis services

Today (July 26, 2010) the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) released a final rule on the implementation of a new bundled payment system for dialysis services.

The Medicare Improvements for Patients and Providers Act of 2008 (MIPPA) required that the Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) implement a bundled payment policy for the end-stage renal disease (ESRD) Prospective Payment System (PPS) beginning on January 1, 2011.

On September 15, 2009 CMS issued the a proposed rule, which outlines the new Medicare payment system for dialysis facilities. In December 2009, ANNA sent a letter to CMS outlining a number of issues of concern with the proposed rule. Also, ANNA joined with Kidney Care Partners (KCP) in a similar letter. Links to these letters can be found below:

ANNA is working to analyze the final rule and will share more detailed information on the ANNA Web site in the near future. We will continue to work with our colleagues in the kidney care community to provide input to CMS on this issue.
