How long have you been in nursing?

I have been a nurse since 1981 – 37 years.

How long have you been in nephrology?

I have been in nephrology nursing for 29 years. I started in an outpatient clinic, then went on to work acute hemodialysis in South Florida Hospitals and LDL Apheresis in Boca Raton, FL.

Why do you love nephrology?

Nephrology nursing has been my passion because I have the ability to make a difference and a positive impact in the life of patients and their families. As nephrology nurses, we are the "lifeline" in providing dialysis. We can help patients to achieve the highest quality of life they can attain.

What is your favorite ANNA member benefit and/or what do you love about being a member of ANNA?

I like all the benefits of being an ANNA member. My favorite is the networking with other members during ANNA dinner meetings or conferences. I stay active in ANNA and took on an officer position in the South Flamingo Chapter #206 in April 2018. ANNA Connected is awesome because, as members, we stay connected!

Do you have a favorite patient story that reminds you why it's all worth it?

My favorite experience was with a 36-year-old patient who came to the hospital with severe back pain and cardiac arrested. He was in the ICU units for weeks on a ventilator, unresponsive. His whole body was shutting down. Dialysis was done almost every day. His mother and father were at his bedside around the clock. The family never gave up. Today, he is speaking, smiling, and breathing on his own. I stopped by his hospital room almost every time I worked. I call this a true miracle.

What are your favorite hobbies and/or pastimes outside of nursing?

I enjoy being a mom to my two sons, ages 18 and 23. I love traveling, shopping, and dining out. I also spend time volunteering at my son's school.
