On October 29, 2021, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) issued a final rule that updates payment policies and rates under the End-Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) Prospective Payment System (PPS) for renal dialysis services furnished to beneficiaries on or after January 1, 2022. This rule also finalizes:
- updates to the Acute Kidney Injury (AKI) dialysis payment rate for renal dialysis services furnished by ESRD facilities, and
- modifications to the ESRD Treatment Choices (ETC) Model policies to encourage certain healthcare providers to decrease disparities in rates of home dialysis and kidney transplants among patients with lower socioeconomic status.
The final rule was published in the November 8, 2021, Federal Register.
