The Primary-Secondary Care Partnership to Improve Outcomes in Chronic Kidney Disease, a study conducted in the United Kingdom, examined whether nurse-led chronic kidney disease (CKD) management programs improve outcomes in patients with CKD in primary care. The recently published study results indicate that while nurse-led programs may not slow the progression of CKD, they improved quality of care and helped patients achieve target blood pressures (Major et al, 2019). Dr. Cynthia Smith, leader of ANNA's Advanced Practice Specialty Practice Network, shared her perspective with Healio/Nephrology on the study results and the role of advanced practitioners in nephrology.
