Clinical Applications and Product Innovation Staff Engineer 

Job Position and Professional Responsibilities:

Clinical Applications and Product Innovation Staff Engineer serves as a clinical subject matter expert, supporting product development throughout the entire lifecycle. This role involves applying specialized knowledge of clinical applications, focusing on usability and human factors, during the planning, design, evaluation, and development of processes, products, and systems. Specifically, it includes integrating clinical insights about how users interact with dialysis systems based on their goals, tasks, workflows, and environments. The engineer collaborates with interdisciplinary teams to ensure that considerations of clinical use and usability are embedded in all stages of planning, design, and development.

Describe your qualifications for this role, and include past ANNA leadership positions:

I bring a wealth of experience across various facets of nephrology nursing, having served in multiple capacities such as acute and chronic, transplant, renal case management, critical care, and administrative roles. My background includes significant educational contributions, where I have focused on enhancing both patient care and nursing practices. Recognized as a strong advocate for both nurses and patients, I also hold the position of Acute Care SPN Best Practice Advisor.

Describe your role in three ANNA projects/activities which support(ed) ANNA’s mission, goals, and objectives:

Updated AKI Fact Sheet:

Collaboratively authored the revised Acute Kidney Injury (AKI) Fact Sheet. This process included extensive research and synthesis of the latest findings and redesigning the document to incorporate valuable feedback from fellow Acute Care SPN members. The fact sheet aims to provide nurses with current and comprehensive information on AKI to improve patient care and outcomes. 

2023 Spring Conference SPN Session on patients receiving ER only Dialysis Treatments:

Developed and delivered a critical presentation on the challenging practices of providing dialysis treatment to undocumented immigrants and discharged patients emergently. This session highlighted the significant healthcare inequities and the mental and physical burnout faced by nephrology nurses caring for this population of patients. The presentation sparked discussions during the session about advocating for policy changes and better support systems to address these inequities and improve nurse well-being.

2024 Spring Conference Presentation on Citrate Anticoagulation:

Presented an educational session on the safe administration and monitoring of citrate anticoagulation for nephrology nurses. The session aimed to enhance the competence and confidence of nurses in managing patients undergoing this treatment, leading to improved patient safety and outcomes.
