FY 2023 Funding for Nursing Education and Biomedical Research

Ask Your Members of Congress to Support Increased Funding for Nursing Education and Biomedical Research
: Increased Fiscal Year (FY) 2023 funding for nursing education program and biomedical research are essential to the advancement of new treatments and prevention strategies for kidney disease patients. The following are ANNA’s top FY 2023 funding priorities for these programs:

  • The National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK)
  • The National Institute of Nursing Research (NINR)
  • The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ)

The Chronic Kidney Disease Improvement in Research and Treatment Act (H.R. 4065/S. 1971). Ask your Members of Congress to cosponsor the Chronic Kidney Disease Improvement in Research and Treatment Act (H.R. 4065/S. 1971). The bill expands kidney disease awareness and education, increases access to the Medicare Kidney Disease Education Benefit, creates an economically stable dialysis infrastructure and incentivize innovation, increases patient access to quality performance information, and expands patient choice in coverage.

The Future Advancement of Academic Nursing (FAAN) Act

Ask Your Members of Congress to Cosponsor the Future Advancement of Academic Nursing (FAAN) Act (H.R. 851 and S. 246)
 
The Future Advancement of Academic Nursing (FAAN) Act (H.R. 851 and S. 246) authorizes grants to support schools of nursing with program enhancement and infrastructure modernization, simultaneously increasing the number of nursing faculty and students.
Schools of nursing will able to use the grant funding to increase the number of faculty and students in order to enhance industry preparedness for public health emergencies, and enhance and modernize of their nursing education programs. Schools of nursing located in a medically underserved community or health professional shortage area will receive funding priority.

The Living Donor Protection Act

Ask Your Senators and Representative to Support the Living Donor Protection Act (H.R. 1255 and S. 377)
The Living Donor Protection Act of removes barriers to living organ donation by prohibiting certain discrimination in insurance and codifying protection for living donors under the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA). The legislation was introduced on February 23, 2021 by Representatives Jerry Nadler (D-NY-10th) and Jaime Herrera Beutler (R-WA-3rd) and Senators Tom Cotton (R-AR) and Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY). The bipartisan legislation would protect living organ donors and promote organ donation.
 
Please take action today and ask your Senators and Representative to cosponsor H.R. 1255 and S. 377.

The Workplace Violence Prevention for Health Care and Social Service Workers Act (H.R. 1195)

Ask your Members of Congress to support Passage of the Workplace Violence Prevention for Health Care & Social Service Workers Act
The Workplace Violence Prevention for Health Care and Social Service Workers Act (H.R. 1195 and S. 4182) requires the Department of Labor (DOL) to address workplace violence in health care, social service, and other sectors. Specifically, the Agency must issue an interim occupational safety and health standard that requires certain employers to take actions to protect workers and other personnel from workplace violence.

United States Cadet Nurse Corps Service Recognition Act

Ask Your Senators and Representative to Support the Cadet Nurse Corps Service Recognition Act (H.R. 2569 and S. 1220)
The United States Cadet Nurse Corps Service Recognition Act (H.R. 2569 and S. 1220) provides overdue recognition of the nearly 120,000 nurses who served honorably serving in military and Veterans Administration hospitals during World War II. In spite of their contribution to our country Nurse Corps members are not eligible for the same types of recognition as other civilian and military groups that served. ANNA joins with Nursing Community Coalition in urging Members of Congress to cosponsor the United States Cadet Nurse Corps Service Recognition Act (H.R. 2569 and S. 1220).
