Venous Needle Dislodgement and Access-Bloodline Separation

Venous needle dislodgement and access-bloodline separation are potential complications of hemodialysis therapy. In 2020, ANNA convened a task force to update the information and resources developed by the 2012 ANNA Venous Needle Dislodgement Task Force and develop additional resources, if needed. The 2020-2021 ANNA Venous Needle Dislodgement Task Force conducted a literature review, requested information from ANNA members, and tested taping techniques. The July/August 2021 issue of the Nephrology Nursing Journal features an article that discusses the results of the literature review, information requests, and taping technique testing, and provides resources on venous needle dislodgement and access-bloodline separation, including a risk assessment tool, educational materials, and practice recommendations.
