Job Position and Professional Responsibilities:
Tenured Professor, Coordinator AGNP Concentration, Nurse Practitioner for Community Health Center (CHC), Florida Atlantic University, Christine E Lynn College of Nursing, Boca Raton. My responsibilities include providing didactic instruction to graduate nursing students; MSN Nurse Practitioner (NP) and DNP. I mentor junior faculty, graduate students (PhD and DNP), international PhD students and faculty from Vietnam, South Africa, and Thailand. Responsible for faculty supervision of FAU NP students in Guatemala. I engage in scholarly endeavors such as research, publishing, and presentations. I care for patients with CKD and those with psychiatric illness at our CHC which serves a low-resource community.
Describe your qualifications for this role, and include past ANNA leadership positions:
As a passionate, caring nephrology nurse who started her career as an LPN I believe in the potential of all nurses to grow and become who they desire. My various roles in ANNA and my professional life make me an excellent candidate for the Director role. Currently I am serving on the DEI committee as the Chair and have been a member since it was a taskforce. I have served numerous times as South Florida Flamingo Chapter President and after years of working together we now have a strong leadership team. I have served twice as the Research Committee Chair and represented ANNA at the National Quality Forum and initiatives of the American Nurses Association. I was the only nurse representing ANNA for a CKD-Technical Expert Panel related to cognitive impairment and older adults. As the elected member-at-large for the Forum of ESRD Networks, I assume the responsibility of being a nephrology nurse and assure that my voice is heard as an advocate for nephrology nurses and individuals with CKD. The same is true for my role as a member of the Forum Medical Advisory Board. I have served in many leadership roles as a nephrology nurse, manager of acute dialysis for over a decade, DON of dialysis centers. I was the Division of Medicine Manager at Cleveland Clinic Florida and Director of DNP program at FAU. I have taught leadership courses multiple times for graduate students. I have a bachelor’s degree in management and communication and a post-master’s in healthcare management.
Describe your role in three ANNA projects/activities which support(ed) ANNA’s mission, goals, and objectives:

Education:
Being the editor and author of several chapters in the Core Curriculum and Contemporary Nephrology Nursing textbook. Presenting on important and relevant topics related to nephrology nursing practice and evidence-based practice (EBP). Authoring or co-authoring several manuscripts in the Nephrology Nursing Journal; some were CEU publications.
Advocacy:
As the Chair of the DEI committee, I collaborate with members to advocate for inclusivity and honoring our uniqueness/togetherness to promote growth of ANNA members through belonging and connectedness. I was a contributor to Nephrology Nursing Scope and Standards of Practice (8th and 9th editions). Being the voice of nephrology nurses at the table of many national and international initiatives. I mentored a PhD student who was a nephrology nurse in Thailand. She was able to meet members of the South Flamingo Chapter as they engaged in shared learning about nephrology nursing from a global perspective.
Science:
I have been involved in research focused on improving health outcomes of those with CKD and receiving dialysis. I received an ANNA grant to study the effect of a community health worker on increasing awareness of CKD in Black adults living in rural communities at risk of CKD. I mentor nephrology nursing FAU students in their DNP projects. I held a workshop on EBP with my colleagues at ANNA conferences as a way to improve knowledge and application of EBP in nephrology; results were published.
